Humanities - A Visit to the Old Street

Development and settlement of Wuci Township began on Ding Hen Street, on which we can still spot buildings of Qing Dynasty. The earthquake happening in 1935 practically leveled the whole street. The street was renovated later. The buildings on the street exhibit the characteristics of baroque style, of them the police station next to Chao Yuan Temple is the most famous.

Of all temples in Wuci Township, Chao Yuan Temple and Jen Wu Temple are the most representative. Jen Wu Temple, which worships Xuan Tian Shang Di, was built in 1846. A Wangyeh Boat, which was said to have drifted from Mainland China, is preserved in the temple. There is also a horizontal inscribed board, erected in 1853, hidden in the temple. It really pays to visit Jen Wu Temple.

The background of development of Wuci Township shows us the hardship the ancestors endured in the past 300 years. Wuci Township has had its ups and downs. It was almost abandoned after World War II. However, due to its unique environment, it ended up becoming one of the important harbors in Taiwan. The future of Wuci Harbor hinges on trade across the Taiwan Strait. You can find many cultural assets and scenic spots in Wuci Township.
