Before the ancestors of Wuci residents left Mainland China for Taiwan, they would bring Matsu icons with them to bless for a smooth sail across the Taiwan Strait. When they reached Wuci safely, they would collect money to build a temple to worship Matsu. That is why there are so many temples in Wuci Township.

　　Chao Yuan Temple on Wuci Road worshipsMeizhou Matsu. Hao Tian Temple in Dazhuan, Yung Tian Temple on Yung Hsing Road and Yung Yuan Temple on Jhong Yang Road all worship Sacred Mother of Heaven. Hao Tien Temple in Dazhuan also worships Shen Nong Emperor, which takes charge of agricultural.

　　development. Jen Wu Temple, which located both on Xi Chien Road and JHong Yang Road, worships Xuan Tian Shang Di. What’s more, Jen Wu Temple on Xi Chien Road is built 160 years ago and ranked a Grade Two Historic Site by Taichung County Government. Wan Hsing Temple, which worships Su Fu Wangyeh, is situated on Min Chuan Street. Pao An Temple, which worships Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha, is situated on Lin Hai Road. These temples were built more than one hundred years ago, during the reign of Qing Emperor Dao Guang, when the business through the harbor was booming. There are also many famous temples in Wuci Township, such as Fu Mei Temple, Wuci Tsu Huei Temple and Tian Shun Temple, all visited very frequently by devoted believers.
